Tools for Consumers

POLICY FORUMS
Are monthly policy discussion designed for the purpose of educating community leaders, policy makers, and the public about policy issues. This series of forums features knowledgeable experts from the public and private sector.  Those experts come from all sides of a policy debate.

Our goals are: 1) to give the public an opportunity to be involved in evaluating the impact of policy initiatives on the community and 2) to encourage advocacy around these initiatives.

Forums have addressed issues such as Sales Tax on Food, Hospital Conversions, Community Economic Development, Hope VI Housing Development, Predatory Lending, Child Care, Rental Housing, Immigration, Land Use Planning/Urban Growth and the Federal Patient’s Bill of Rights.

Forums have been co-sponsored by many groups including, the USC College of Social Work through the I. DeQuincey Newman Chair, Benedict College Department of Social Work, S.C. Appleseed Legal Justice Center; S.C. Institute on Poverty & Deprivation; Lutheran Family Services of the Carolinas; S.C.
